As many of you know, my primary medium and working method is digital collage composed of manipulated photographs often combined with digital drawing & generative images. In another life I was an Arts & Culture consultant specializing in revitalization planning through creative public art projects and programs with Economic & Community Development Departments of towns, villages and cities. I've always somehow despised the lyrics of Chaplin's Smile. I believe in tears that don't demand a smile to get through.
The time to smile is when you feel happy. Tears are also allowed.
Maybe I'm humorless.

I wouldn't say that you're humorless at all, Susu. I believe in allowing for tears ... in fact, the quote from Albert Smith agrees with what you say.
Tears are good when you're happy and also when you're not. The quote is quite good. The picture goes with it. Or the other way round.
