A sad, lonely work, the text and illustration go well together.
SusuPetal:
At the time, I was very sad and very lonely. Creating my art was the only way I had to deal with the circumstances back then. :)
the usa looks great on top - it reminded me of the dust bowl and herny fonda in grapes of wrath.
This one makes me ay Steinbeck. The Grapes of Wrath, for instance. Or why not Of Mice and Men, with particularly the story the man who didn't know his strength.
John:
There is a look that would evoke that era. I can only admit that I wasn't thinking beyond a painful time of my own when creating this image and I still don't know why I used the map when doing the update ... it did add to that dusty look though. :)

It's funny how specific times in history can be brought back by a simple artwork. It's also very interesting that you, as a Finnish Sister living in France, first identified with these very American human tragedies.
Powerful work. I can see why it is a favorite.
Seth:
I think some of the credit for this one goes to you, Seth. Thanks to another of your terrific projects, I was digging in the archives all week. :)
This is very cool and yes lonely and evocative.
Mary Stebbins Taitt:
Thanks, Mary ... didn't we use this at Silk Creek Review or BloodrootZ? Maybe not, I can't remember.
