Still looking back -

"Empty II"
digital collage by Mick Mather
As I mentioned yesterday, I'll continue to post old work through Thursday. I took the liberty of expanding this piece that was accomplished during a period when I often used text with my images. Each was a short, short, short story or vignette ... this is one of my favorites.

Memory Lane -

"Walkin' in the Sand"
digital collage by Mick Mather
"... somewhere along the coast of California we stopped for a few hours. The tide was out, way out, and the afternoon sun cast a rosy glow, thick as melted butter and warm for that time of year. The wind was rippling through your hair, lifting your sundress at just the right moment and creating a mood of the sort one never forgets. You asked if I knew about the nearby caves and when I said that I didn't, you took me by the hand and led me into one. It was a perfect moment where nothing more happened. I'll always remember that too, wondering if the look on your face was hopeful expectancy or that naive question as to how did you manage to get yourself into a situation like this? I suppose those ghosts haunt both of us, don't they? ..."

NEW from The Nightmare Series -

"Violet Ray"
montage by Mick Mather
Excerpt from The Vignettes - "Fountain of Youth"
"At the edge of an indigo wood lies a swampy moor. A pale, orange moon is reflected there, an eerie glow upon duck grass, swallowed whole into the treachery of quick mud. Urban myths and secret maps freely reveal the fountain of youth. Nothing is said 'bout the maze of death nor the flesh-eating Violet Ray."

Illustration Friday: Camouflage -

"Camouflage"
montage by Mick Mather
Excerpt from The Vignettes - "Light Show"
"The withdrawing rays of eventide mottle the skin. Playing tricks on the eye the spears shimmer and shine, rolling out the velvet shadows of night. Within their dim recesses she sits and waits. In a moment the street lamps, a willing partner, are set to work their magic, covering crows feet, blemishes and the harshness of her daily life."

NEW from The Vignettes -

"Pea Soup"
montage by Mick Mather

Excerpt from The Vignettes: "A Chance Meeting"

I was feeling my way along the foggy street, when suggestions of council rows painted in the green and gray mist gave way to a face! Looming up suddenly, out of the vagueness, there you were. Both of us felt the weight, half terror and half relief, at apparitions transformed by the miracle of recognition.
