The week has already started out on the rough side. Freezing rain started falling on Sunday evening. Yesterday our typical lake effect snow squalls kicked in and have dumped almost a foot of snow on us. I've been taking the bus to work the last few days and on my way down the hill this morning I fell right on my asterisk! No harm done, although someone asked me if that little slip caused a concussion - everybody's a comedian! Since I had to dig the car out when I got home this afternoon I probably don't need to tell you, I'm pooped! Therefore, something short and sweet, quick and easy ... just like me! :D

I've begun a little side project using one of my favorite widgets, typoGenerator. During my nightly hour of reading, I make notes of short phrases that read differently when taken out of context. The next step is to run them through that very cool little thingy that create what they call typoPosters. I've mentioned before that I'll be taking advantage of this fun little tool on occasion - in a particularly hectic week or at the end of a long day at the office. I've shown a few of these over the past month or two and tonight's post is another example of what randomly pops out. With minimal additions of my own, I can usually produce an interesting piece rather quickly...enjoy.

It's been quite a ride these last two or three weeks at my office. I'm tired, fried, burnt out, in need of some r 'n r, a vacation, time out, time off ... well, you get the idea. Today's post comes from a newspaper headline as regards community support for the last exhibition curated by the ex-director of The Warehouse Gallery. Recently fired by the 800-pound gorilla known as Syracuse University with no definitive answers to the question, "why" ... and the world keeps goin' 'round.

This post came straight out of a novel, Perelandra, by C. S. Lewis. As can be discovered by following the link, this is the second book in his Space Trilogy. Today, Lewis is probably much better known for his children's book series, The Chronicles of Narnia. I didn't find this read particularly spellbinding although the struggle between the main character and the devil toward the latter third of the story came somewhat close to, what is for me, a page turner. The first book in the series, Out of the Silent Planet, was dry white toast, yet I struggled through it. The last of the trilogy, That Hideous Strength, is finally something I've settled into with excitement although it remains to prove itself over the next 300 or so pages. In any case, these books, not unlike the Harry Potter Series in style, are written for the English tongue and ear and may not be for everyone's taste. So, taking a breath as I wend my way, taking the long way home, the title of this evening's post is one of the lines from Perelandra that struck me between the eyes as I read it, reread and went back three or four times to read it again. Into the typoGenerator it went, finally, and here you have it.

The House Project was officially closed by HPY on Thursday. This morning, via Collage Clearinghouse, I stumbled into this wonderful project, White on White, curated by The International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction. There's a lot of terrific work over there, including "White on White Words" by Debra Dresler, where the five words in this post first caught my eye. As I read them, my thinking immediately went to HPY and her houses and I couldn't resist running things through my new, most fave gadget, typoGenerator! To complete the collage I added the five white words in another font that I like along with a small house plan. If you ever get ambitious enough to create a little book, HPY, perhaps this might be the cover. :D

"Send More Chuck Berry"

First, let's talk about widgets. There are lots of amazing little software programs being created by some very clever open source code writers and developers. What you see in tonight's post is the result of one of my new favorites (thanks Susupetal - I found typoGenerator at your place initially). There are dozens of others that I'm sure many of you will find appealing and I may have to add a category to my sidebar for those I know about and like best. Warning, some of these cool doodads are in beta states that may cause your computer to crash so be forewarned - I don't plan to recommend any that have made mine crash however. So, what to do with these shiny, new toys? Play with them of course. What happens at typoGenerator is that you get a little box where you put in a word or a phrase. Press the generate button and soon you have a nifty poster made up of random text, your specific text and random images ... as should be obvious by now, "Send More Chuck Berry" is the phrase that I chose after a bit of thinking that included Voyager, Dr. Sagan and a skit from the original cast of Saturday Night Live. There's a terrific blog post about it by Connie Sunday if you want more info. Another visual example of what one might do? Ron Huxley has altered some business cards that look terrific! While it's unclear that he's used typoGenerator, the appearance is decidedly similar. See them at his flickr site, here. As I discover more fun widgets, I'll keep you posted.
