Illustration Friday: Moon -

"Full Moon Festival"
digital collage by Mick Mather
With moon as the Illustration Friday theme for this week, I was drawn to this image. Originally destined for the Outer Dust Rings, I've struggled for many an evening here at the secret visual laboratory but never did quite get it to fit. Lucky for me I suppose since nothing else I've tried this evening has panned out. Anyway, it's been languishing in a development file for months, hauled out from time to time for a bit more work, and I'm pleased to finally be able to post it.

This image is appropriate for the stuff that's going on here on the peninsula this weekend Mick. It's the "Summer of Love" concert here in Monterey! I guess back in 1967 they put on a show with big names and this weekend they're going to try to bring some of that good old music back. Most of the old performers are passed on mind you, but they'll revive the music still.
Ya gotta love being a boomer!

I do need to stop back at your place to look again and to look longer. As I mentioned, there are quite a few of your paintings that spoke to me at first glance. As far as my own work, thanks very much for your kind words as well. I manipulate photographs with a series of "super secret" filters and plug-ins. Sometimes I use as many as a half-dozen images, deconstructing them, putting them back together and then through the filters and plug-ins. I seek a painterly effect - impressionist, expressionist - that is accomplished through as many as a dozen layers before an image is ready to show. :)

Thanks so much with a blush, Laurel, and I'm jealous. I love Monteray and Carmel but never made it for "The Monteray Pop Festival" in 1967. I did visit there 6 or 7 times during the 1990's. I loved to drive up through Pacific Grove, 'round past the dunes and rocky beaches, past Pebble Beach and down 17-Mile Drive. Lunch at Nepenthe in Big Sur was always a trek to make as well. In 1967 I was faced with going AWOL to come to San Francisco for the Summer of Love but ended up back at a Naval Base in Florida instead. Even so, it was a very special time and I have to agree, "ya gotta love being a boomer".

I like - surprise! - this pic too. Womans back and her position is very clever.

She's so naked with all these people around her, so isolated compared the others.

Thanks (blush!) for your (always) perceptive comments. In a way, the woman reminds me a little bit of you. In another way, it's as if she just came in from a swim and discovered that there was a party going on! :)

Thanks for this comment, Velvet (a sigh & a blush)...as you well know, I work very hard on my images. It's always a lift when you find that someone you've known for a long time tells you how much they enjoy them. :)
