"A Beautiful Summer Day" digital collage by Mick Mather
Before I have to run - to the office and then to an art opening this evening - attention to a soothing and comfortable beach scape is at hand. Beautiful! This is the theme at Thursday Challenge this week and what could be more relaxing than a day filled with sun, sea and sand? Ahhh yes, a little bit of fluff to pretty it all up? Beautiful!
This pic is in some way nostalgic, maybe the pose and the colouring make me think of a bathing beauty in the 50's. The early days of rock'n roll, the rise of youth, rebels with a cause.
susupetal: I'm delighted with this comment (blush!) and more than pleased that it evokes that feeling of nostalgia in you. Having grown up during that time, I can see everything that you've mentioned in the piece myself. Admittedly, this is one of those happy accidents since I didn't, consciously, set out with that concept in mind. :)
hpy: Thanks, with my usual blush. There was something about the lazy, relaxing, sunny, summer day that moved me as I worked on this one. I'm pleased that you like it too.
In its short-sightedness, blogger has turned its back on those of us stuck with old operating systems and I'm forced to find a new blog host. You will now find MickMathersARTblog at Blog.com - use the direct link found in the masthead and remember to update your bookmarks.
This place will continue as another archive for a large body of my work. As many of you know, my primary medium and working method is digital collage composed of manipulated photographs often combined with digital drawing & generative images.
Netlabels, bands and musicians can view samples of my CD Cover Art at Mick Mather Illustration located on Tumblr.
In another life I was an Arts & Culture consultant specializing in revitalization planning through creative public art projects and programs with Economic & Community Development Departments of towns, villages and cities. In these hard financial times this work is more important than ever and I still accept consultancy inquiries. You can contact me by email at: mickmather@yahoo.com
