Illustration Friday: The Zoo -

"The Zoo"
digital collage by Mick Mather
As you can see, The Zoo, is our theme at Illustration Friday this week. It didn't take me long to follow back along the trail to the Greek Life at almost any college campus you might have as your own, personal reference. For me it was the University of Florida and Syracuse University with a research residency or two at the likes of Fredonia State, Cornell University and Ithaca College...but I digress. Who among us doesn't recall that one fraternity, forever etched in our memory in the film "Animal House", where the common room always smelled like beer and cigars and was generally speaking a mess. This particular house was, like the movie, always on the brink of losing its charter and because of the notorious parties, hazings and hijinx was more commonly known as...wait for it! The Zoo! :D

LMAO - yes! They most certainly are. I appreciate the "Go Gators!" but, for me, it's really "Go Orange!" - except the the SU football team for the 3rd straight year probably couldn't beat our area high school teams! Hey! Get to bed! I though you were sick! :D

Animal house is a charming movie, really like it. When I was younger I thought I could tame Belushi, but nowadays I haven't any need for such thoughts.

The zoo. Yes.

Nice little house
I could move in !

What does the text mean ("Tappa kegga beer" - did I see it right?)? I do know what the beer means even if I don't drink it.

If you add one a to tappa(a), it means "to kill" in finnish. :D

In it's way, "Animal House" is a classic slice-of-life for that short side of the academic world. It addressed a number of issues: coming of age & rebellion, class division & politics, freedom of choice and the great struggle of the underdog to overcome. LOL @ your John Belushi comment,"I haven't any need for such thoughts". What? Are you telling me that the thrill is gone, Susu? :)

elina:
LMAO ... when you have a big party, as the college fraternities so often do, you purchase beer by the "keg". Once you have the keg you next need what is called the "tap" that is inserted into the bung of the keg - this has a spout on the outside end so you can pour your beer. Long story short then, tappa kegga is a joke (in fake Latin) that also describes a fraternity house that parties way too much. :D

LMAO (again!) @ adding an "a" to tappa(a) ... always, Elina, a touch of the horror movie Goddess to make everything so much more interesting! :)

I still have the thrill, but I doubt Belushi hasn't got any more...

I'm happy to know that you still have it. Poor John, though, a victim of his own excess.

Laurel, puh-leeze!!! Those are your pinky winkies. What sort of fraternity would they be without flying the "panty raid" flag? :D
