Another manipulated painting -

"Jacks"
digitally manipulated tempera-on-paper painting by Mick Mather
I have to rush off this morning and have no idea how long I'll be away today. So, for the background on these new paintings and subsequent manipulations, have a look here. I do have another version of this that is just fabulous (if I say so myself) and may post it soon with a link to the original painting once I have a few minutes to put it up.

I suddenly feel old. I used to love playing jacks--cool piece. Thanks for the memories.

It looks like a compass, I think.

You're welcome, Mary. I really need to ask, what was your best grab for the little buggers while the ball was in the air?

Yes, it does at that! However, it's a little metal, spiky thingy that's used in an old childrens game called "Jacks". You got a bag full of these, maybe 30, and a rubber ball. As I remember, you would bounce the ball, quickly pick up a single jack and catch the ball. If you were sucessful, you got another turn where you needed to pick up 2 jacks and so on, increasing the number by 1 jack each time, until you failed to catch the ball. Then, the next person had a go until, at the end, whoever had accumulated the most jacks won the game. I think. :)
